As an animal lover promoting no-kill shelters and raising money for abandoned pets, 61-year-old Bill Craig mounts his trusty Trek 1000 bicycle and leaves Carrollton, Texas in the summer heat of September 8, 2010, bound for Carrollton, Georgia. Bill plans to cover a grueling 70 to 75 miles per day and finish the 800 mile charity ride in only eleven days.

Craig, a cyclist for 15 years, was quoted as saying, “I am doing this because it is my calling to do something for the animals… We domesticated them; that makes us responsible for them.”

In 2008, Bill accomplished a similar feat in the Dallas,Texas to Dallas, Georgia Wet Noses bike ride which offered him some experience that aided in route planning and communications this time around. He trains extensively for each trip and carefully maps out the route, although he is still in need of donated or discounted places for overnight accommodations in several towns along the way.
