IFR also indicates the type of flight plan an aircraft is using. For example, prior to departure pilots submit documents to some form of civil aviation authority (FAA, CASA, etc.). These documents include: location of departure/arrival, estimated time of arrival, alternative airports in case of having to divert due to an emergency, pilot information, aircraft specifications, cargo, number of passengers and data indicating the type of flight.
